The suburb of Springfield, Va., may be best known for being one of the nation’s larger Afghan American enclaves. Community members estimate at least 5,000 – many refugees of the various wars that have devastated the country since 1979 – live there. Like many D.C.-area suburbs, Springfield has also been a magnet for other immigrant communities, including Indians and Pakistanis.
