This Northwest Washington, D.C. neighborhood is adjacent to (and overlaps with) the more high-profile U Street and Adams-Morgan. Once nearly all African American, Shaw has been the site of rapid gentrification. Lined with historic row houses (not luxury condos), Shaw is distinctly less trendy than the aforementioned areas — residents of all races struggle against neighborhood crime and gangs, while trying to maintain a neighborhood feel despite demographic changes.
